Mixed Materials Lead the Way for Future Weight Reduction

Various weight reduction solutions were discussed during the Society of Automotive Analysts Lightweighting Summit in Detroit last month. Among those solutions, increased aluminum use as an alternative to steel in a multi-material vehicle design was discussed. As panelists shared their insights on ways automakers can identify new opportunities to cut weight and optimize vehicle design, mixed materials are cited as “really the pathway,” by Ducker Worldwide’s Abey Abraham.

With new approaches to weight savings being developed, Constellium and other Tier 1 suppliers continue to expand their automotive business as new vehicle architectures hit showrooms.
